Now follow this sequence:

             • Draw a Tic-Tac-Toe board on a whiteboard/flip chart.

             • Give a sketch pen or marker to both the volunteers.

             • Now, the paper cannot write on its own, so the volunteer will write for the

                paper.

             • The volunteer playing on behalf of the paper must follow the instructions
written on the paper and say the instructions aloud so that there is complete
                transparency.

             • The volunteer playing for humans will start and play its moves while the paper

volunteer will play strictly as per instructions.

             • The two players will continue until either of them wins or the game ends in a
                draw.

             • If the game ends in a draw, it means that the paper still didn’t lose; it never

                loses.

Now, ask your friends if they believe you now that the paper is as smart as a
human and is an intelligent paper.

             What does it mean

Does it mean that the instructions written on the paper made it intelligent or that
the person who wrote the instructions made it so?

The paper is essentially like a computer program which follows whatever is
encoded in it by developers of the program. So, in itself, a program may not be
intelligent but it becomes intelligent by the logic fed into it by humans.

What does it tell you about intelligence? Discuss below with your friends:
