Illustrated Biology for Class XII strictly adheres to the latest complete syllabus prescribed by the
CBSE. The content has been prepared with utmost care and follows the guidelines and framework
of the syllabus with a balanced view, diligently avoiding personal biases and philosophies in
vogue. However, necessary details and adequate information required for effective delivery of
concepts have been incorporated.
The book follows a simple, direct and precise approach keeping in view students’ needs. A
student-friendly writing style has been adopted which is highly interactive but not informal.
Concepts have been discussed keeping in mind that content and pedagogies are developmentally
appropriate and that the language is lucid and progressive. Special efforts have been made
for efficient use of teaching-learning methodologies and delivery of concepts is done through
construction of ideas. The text is designed to promote understanding and develop important skills
in young minds who should find it interesting and informative.
Learning Outcomes have been added at the beginning of each chapter to familiarise students
with the key concepts discussed in the chapter. For better understanding of a concept, related
text, figures and tables are placed together as far as possible. Authentic illustrations with
well-labelled artwork have been integrated to augment conceptual clarity. Flow diagrams and
summary tables have also been frequently used to assist the learners integrate instructive
information presented in descriptive form. Experiments and activities as transactional
strategies have been introduced at various places to clarify concepts.
Each chapter contains extra information provided in boxes to apprise students of the novel
work being done in the relevant field and to inculcate scientific temper in them. Supplementing
each chapter with Key Terms at the end ensures enhancement of a student’s understanding and
learning of the scientific terms used. A concise point-wise Summary at the end of each chapter
will acquaint students with key information and main concepts instantly. Each chapter has also
been supplemented with NCERT Questions along with Answers to assist students write
perfect answers to frequently-asked important questions.
Detailed chapter-end exercises have been categorised into different sections to include a variety
of formats. 1-Mark Questions, 2-Mark Questions, 3-Mark Questions and 5-Mark Questions have
been added as per CBSE format which will help in testing comprehension, grasp and proficiency
of the students. Questions from NCERT Exemplar have also been added under particular
formats. Inclusion of HOTS, Case-based and Assertion & Reason questions will further
augment a student’s understanding and learning capability. Further, innovative MCQs and
practice questions of previous years’ NEET and other medical entrance examinations have also
been added to enhance the competitive focus of each chapter.
