Illustrated Biology for CBSE Class XI has been prepared strictly in accordance with the
latest syllabus prescribed by the Board. The content has been prepared as per the guidelines
and framework of the syllabus with a balanced view, diligently avoiding personal biases and
fashionable philosophies. Essential details and adequate information necessary for effectual
transaction of concepts have been included.
The book highlights the biological concepts in an interesting and lucid manner to arouse
and sustain curiosity among students about the biological world. Efforts have been made
for efficient teaching-learning methodologies and delivery of concepts through construction
of ideas and concepts. A student-friendly and interactive writing style has been adopted,
which is neither concise nor informal. The concepts have been discussed to ensure that
content and pedagogies are developmentally appropriate and that the language is articulate
and progressive.
Learning Outcomes have been added at the beginning of each Chapter to familiarise
students with key concepts discussed in the Chapter. Flow diagrams and summary
tables have also been used at places to assist the learners integrate instructive information
presented in descriptive form. Experiments and activities as transactional strategies have
been introduced at various places to clarify concepts.
Each Chapter has also been supplemented with extra information, provided in boxes, to keep
pace with the novel work in the relevant field and inculcate scientific temper among students.
Key Terms at chapter-end ensure enhancement of students’ understanding and learning of
scientific terminology. A concise point-wise Summary at the end of each Chapter will acquaint
students with key information and main concepts. Each Chapter also carries NCERT Questions
along with Answers to assist students know perfect answers to important frequently-asked
questions and write accordingly.
A detailed Exercise section at the end of each Chapter consists of a variety of formats—
1-Mark, 2-Mark, 3-Mark and 5-Mark questions—which will help test comprehension, grasp
and proficiency of students. Questions from NCERT Exemplar have also been added under
respective formats. Inclusion of HOTS, Case-based and Assertion-Reason questions will
help ascertain augmentation of students’ understanding and learning capability. Besides,
questions from previous years’ NEET and other medical entrance examinations for
practice have been incorporated to enhance the competitive focus of each Chapter.
Another highlight of this book is inclusion of two Sample Question Papers (Solved) and
